Neonatal Organ Donation Program

The success of the Neonatal Organ Donation Program and the LungMAP depends upon:

  • Care providers being aware of the importance and the opportunity for neonatal and pediatric organ donation.
  • Early referral of potential donors to the local Organ Procurement Organization who, if organs are ineligible for transplant, will refer to NDRI or IIAM for protocolized organ retrieval and shipping to the Human Tissue Core at URMC

We have begun to raise awareness, among perinatology, neonatology and pediatric services, of the potential for donation of intact lungs from the unavoidable death of patients between 20-24 weeks and 10 years of age
